Privacy Policy
Effective: October 16, 2026
AIZEN ("we," "our," or "us") is built around one principle: your data belongs to you. This Privacy Policy explains what AIZEN keeps, what leaves your device and when, and the choices you have.
Data Kept on Your Device and in Your iCloud
AIZEN stores the following on your iPhone or iPad:
- Tasks, rituals, and daily completions
- Journal entries, reflections, and any photo you keep with a journal page
- Goals and commitments
- Ritual sessions and history (for example the distance and route of a Move session)
- App preferences and settings
If iCloud is on for your Apple Account, this data also syncs to your own private iCloud database so it is on your other devices. It is stored in your iCloud, under your Apple Account, and we cannot read it. It is never sent to our servers.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you grant permission, AIZEN reads sleep (duration and stages), steps and active energy, heart rate, resting heart rate and heart rate variability, mindful minutes, workouts, water, time in daylight, and State of Mind, to show your body's rhythm alongside your practices.
With your permission AIZEN also writes to Health: mindful minutes after Meditate, workouts after Move, State of Mind entries, and water you log. You can turn any of these off in the Health app under Sharing, Apps, AIZEN.
Values read from Health are kept on your device and are never stored in AIZEN's synced data. Health data stays on your device unless you turn on Health in the Assistant in Settings (it is off by default). With it on, a short summary (last night's sleep, resting heart rate and heart rate variability, steps, mindful minutes, minutes in daylight, and today's State of Mind) is sent with your questions to AIZEN's assistant, described below, which does not keep it. Turn it off at any time. AIZEN never sells, shares for advertising, or monetizes health data.
The Assistant (AIZEN Tab)
The AIZEN tab is an assistant. Before anything is sent, AIZEN asks your permission, once, in the app; you can change your answer at any time in Settings, AI, Use the Assistant. If you decline, AIZEN answers on your device where your device supports it, and nothing is sent.
With your permission, your messages go to our server, which forwards them to DeepSeek, a third-party AI model provider, to write the reply. Along with each message AIZEN sends the context it needs to answer well:
- Your chat messages and your name
- Today's tasks and practices, and your goals
- Today's and tomorrow's calendar events (titles and times), if you have given Calendar access
- With Learn My Patterns on, short excerpts of your recent journal entries, a summary of your week's rhythm, and what you have asked AIZEN to remember, so the assistant can speak to your week. Turn Learn My Patterns off and none of these are sent.
- The Health summary described above, only with Health in the Assistant on
Journal photos are never sent. Our server does not store your messages or replies. AI conversations are not used to train models. DeepSeek processes each request under its own data retention policy, and requests may be processed on servers outside your country. The same permission covers Siri's Ask AIZEN and the other features that use the assistant, such as breaking a task into steps.
Each request also carries a random install number the app makes for itself (not your device's identifier), the app's version, and whether you have Pro, so our server can keep the daily limits. For each request the server keeps a usage record with no words in it: the install number, which feature asked, the model, the number of tokens, the cost, the time, and whether it succeeded.
Usage Counts
To learn which rituals help, AIZEN counts how it is used: kinds and counts, such as which ritual was held and at what hour, which tab was opened, whether a task was added or done, how long a meditation played, and roughly how long a journal page was. Each count carries the random install number, the app version and the time. Counts never include your journal, your task titles, your messages, or anything from Health. While counts are on, the name you type in Settings is also sent with the install number.
Counts are on by default. Turn them off in Settings, Data and Support, Help improve AIZEN. Turning them off stops sending and clears any counts not yet sent; counts already sent stay until you ask us to delete them (see Data Deletion).
Settings and Membership
When AIZEN opens, it asks our server for its current settings, such as which meditations and paintings to show. That request carries only a number from 0 to 99, worked out on your device, used to try a change on a share of installs; it does not carry the install number.
While founding membership is open, AIZEN sends the install number, the app version and the platform to claim a place among the first 1,000 members. The server keeps that claim so each place is counted once.
Meditations and Paintings
Guided sessions, paintings, and the list of sessions are downloaded from our storage as ordinary file downloads. They carry no install number and no account. As with any download, the server sees your IP address.
Optional Account
You never need an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google or your email, sign in is handled by Supabase, our database provider. We then keep your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives you if you hide yours) and a profile with the name you set in Settings, the rituals you have on, your install number, whether you are a founding member, and whether you want to hear from us, which is off unless you turn it on. To delete your account and its profile, open Settings, AIZEN Pro, Account, Delete account.
Writing to Us
When you write to us from Settings, Data and Support, Write to us, we receive your message, the email address and name you give, and your install number, app version and build, device model, iOS version, and whether you have Pro or a founding membership, so we can help. Nothing you wrote in AIZEN is attached.
Sending Us a Conversation
If you choose Send to AIZEN on a conversation, we receive its most recent messages (up to 60), the reason you give, your install number and the app version, so we can see what went wrong. This is the only way a conversation is kept on our servers.
Location
During an outdoor Move session, AIZEN uses your location to measure distance and pace, including while your phone is locked, and only while the session is running. The route is saved with the session on your device and in your iCloud, and to Apple Health as part of the workout if you allow it. Location is never sent to our servers.
Microphone and Dictation
When you tap the microphone, AIZEN turns your voice into text for tasks, journal entries, and messages. Recognition happens on your device whenever your language supports it; otherwise Apple processes the audio under Apple's privacy policy. AIZEN does not record or keep audio.
Calendar and Reminders
If you allow it, AIZEN reads your calendar events to plan around them and can add your scheduled tasks and rituals to an AIZEN calendar. If you allow Reminders, AIZEN imports your due reminders as tasks. This happens on your device through Apple's frameworks.
Screen Time (FamilyControls)
Unplug, a kind of Focus, can use Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls) to block distracting apps during a session. This is handled entirely by Apple's framework on your device. AIZEN cannot see which specific apps you use or block; Apple's privacy architecture prevents this by design.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, AIZEN schedules local notifications on your device for ritual reminders and the morning and night reminders that frame your day. These are processed on your device using Apple's UserNotifications framework. No notification data is sent to external servers.
Analytics and Tracking
AIZEN does not use any third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or advertising frameworks. We do not track you across apps or websites, and there are no cookies, pixels, or fingerprinting. The usage counts described above are our own, kept in our own database, and never shared.
Diagnostics
iOS may save crash and hang reports for AIZEN on your device. They are never sent to us automatically. If you choose Share Diagnostics in Settings, Support, you decide where the report goes (for example an email to us). Apple may also receive crash reports if you have enabled that in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled entirely through Apple's App Store and StoreKit 2. We do not process or store payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs transaction data. To match a subscription to your install, AIZEN passes the install number to Apple with the purchase, and Apple's notifications about that subscription bring it back to our server.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. Data leaves your device in these cases:
- Assistant messages and their context to our server and DeepSeek, only with your permission
- Usage counts and your name to our server, until you turn counts off
- The settings request and the founding claim to our server
- Meditation and painting downloads from our storage
- Your account, only if you choose to sign in
- Messages and conversations you send us, only when you choose to
- Your synced data to your own private iCloud, if iCloud is on
- Diagnostics, only when you choose to share them
Our server and database run on Vercel and Supabase, which process this data for us to provide AIZEN, and may do so outside your country.
This Website
aizenrhythm.com uses no cookies and no analytics. If you join the early access list, we receive your email address, the page you came from, your browser's name, and the invitation code in the link, if there was one. We use it to tell you when AIZEN is available, and nothing else. Write to us and we will remove it.
Data Deletion
To delete your AIZEN data, open Settings in AIZEN and choose Delete All Data. This removes your data from this device and the synced copy in your iCloud. You can also remove AIZEN's iCloud data yourself in iOS Settings, under your Apple Account, iCloud, Manage Storage. Deleting the app alone removes only the copy on the device. Delete All Data does not reach our servers: to delete what they hold (usage counts, your name, messages and conversations you sent us, your founding claim and assistant usage records), write to us from Settings, Data and Support, Write to us, which carries your install number so we can find them, and we will delete them. Data AIZEN wrote to Apple Health stays in Health until you delete it there. If you have an active subscription, you can cancel it through Settings, your Apple Account, Subscriptions.
Children's Privacy
AIZEN is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes through the app or by updating the "Effective" date above.
